Bedroom Mirror Makeover
Happy New Year! (I know…it’s a bit late, but better late than never!) I hope 2019 is treating you well so far.
To start my year off right I promised myself that I would redecorate my bedroom to give it a facelift. It has looked the same since I moved into my apartment two years ago. My first project on my to do list was my bedroom mirror. I bought this mirror from the thrift store three years ago for $10.00. It was very plain my aim was to make it look like it belonged with the pieces of furniture I already had.
I decided to paint the frame with some left over Americana Chalky Finish Paint in the colour carbon. To ensure that I did not get paint on the mirror I used scrap paper and painter’s tape to cover the entire mirror. I applied three coats of paint and allowed it to dry completely.
On one of my trips to the dollar store I found a small box of silver leaf for only $1.25! I love a good deal ;) To add some interest and texture to the mirror, I added some silverleaf to two corners. To adhere the silverleaf to the mirror I applied a thin layer of white school glue. I used a small paint brush to lay the silverleaf over the glue, and used another clean brush to brush away the excess silverleaf to create the design.
Once I was satisfied with how the mirror looked, I left it to dry for a few hours. After the paint and glue dried completely, I used a clean brush to clean away any loose pieces of silverleaf. I then applied one coat of clear Americana Decor Creme Wax to only the painted areas. I allowed that to dry for two hours, then buffed the frame with a clean cloth, and removed the tape and paper from the mirror. To hang the mirror I used some large Command Picture Hanging Strips in black.
The finished product turned out better than I expected! What do you think?
Unitl next time,
